This was something interesting taken from the STAR – Just wish  to share this cause i am finally seeing new Members talking….

Karpal: It’s Dr M who must apologise

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad should apologise to the judges implicated in the 1988 judicial crisis, said DAP national chairman Karpal Singh.

He said that calling for the present government under Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to apologise was not a step in the right direction.

“It is not the present administration which convened those tribunals.

“The two tribunals in 1988 were initiated by Dr Mahathir. So he should apologise,” said the Bukit Gelugor MP.

Karpal Singh also called for the setting up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the judicial crisis.

“The commission should also establish whether there was any misconduct on the part of Dr Mahathir in abusing Article 125(3) of the Federal Constitution.

“It should look into the integrity of the two tribunals involved in the dismissal of the then Lord President Tun Salleh Abas and Supreme Court judges Tan Sri Wan Sulaiman Pawanteh and Datuk George Seah, he said.

“The first tribunal found Tun Salleh guilty of misconduct, while the second tribunal found the two judges guilty of misconduct,” he told a press conference at Jalan Duta court complex yesterday.

Karpal Singh said Dr Mahathir should apologise to the family of the late Wan Sulaiman. In the case of Wan Sulaiman and George Seah, he added, all benefits due to them should also be reinstated.

Karpal Singh was responding to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim’s proposal that the Federal Government apologise to the victims of the 1988 judicial crisis.

Zaid was also quoted as saying that although the crisis was 20 years ago, an apology was needed as it was wrongly handled and that the then Lord President’s sacking was inappropriate.

He said the DAP also called on the Prime Minister to announce whether the Government was prepared to move an amendment to the Federal Constitution to outlaw party hopping.

“If the Prime Minister is not prepared to amend the Constitution, then I will propose a private members bill to outlaw party switching,” he added.

raghuvaran.jpg

Raghuvaran (60) the noted character actor of Tamil cinema passed away early this morning at a private hospital in Chetpet, Chennai, due to a cardiac arrest. The actor was married to actress Rohini, but the marriage failed and they went through a messy divorce. The couple has an 8-year-old son Nanda. Raghuvaran’s claim to fame was his stylized way of acting and his dialogue delivery. He had a huge following among the masses. He stole the thunder whenever he played the villain with the swagger and with the way he drawled on his dialogues. Right from his first film Ezhavathu Manithan(1982), he created his own acting style.

But it was in the role of the villain in commercial Tamil cinema that he shone in, especially when he was paired with the superstar Rajinikanth in Baasha, Muthu, Arunachalam etc. He was the Superstar’s favourite as he excelled in the role of the bad man in his films. The Superstar knew that unless the villain is given equal importance as the hero, his character will not become popular with the masses. Raghuvaran has acted in over 100 films in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Hindi films and has been praised as a natural actor. Most of his roles were of a villain or supporting actor. He has also acted as hero in a few movies, which did not do well at the box-office. He became famous with his role as the protagonist of a Tamil soap opera, “Oru Manidhanin Kadhai” (One Man’s Story), about a well-to-do man who becomes an alcoholic and faces the consequent difficulties. Unfortunately, in real life too, he is known for his controversial drug addiction. His family split on this regard, and he has also undergone deaddiction courses. But Raghuvaran was a very colourful person. His last release was Jayaraj’s Silanerangalil (Feb 29, 2008) where he played a negative character.

Let the Expert to do their JOB !!!

17,March,2008

This is not unusual. A very common thing that everyone does, but not something good to be practiced and of course, its always good to let the experts to do their job. I came accross this article in one of our local news paper and find its quite important to share with you all.

Consultant nephrologist Dr Goh Bak Leong said based on observations, patients had the tendency to self-treat diabetes and hypertension after just one or two visits.

“Some patients may visit their doctors once or twice and then decide to buy their own medication instead of seeing their doctors on a regular basis.

“This lack of doctor’s monitoring is dangerous. Their conditions may worsen and the patients won’t realise it.

“These patients need to see a doctor even when there are no symptoms because by the time symptoms are discovered it will be too late. It can be a stroke or heart failure or kidney failure,” said Dr Goh, who is also the organising chairman of the World Kidney Day 2008.

He said for hypertension, a patient needed to reach the desired or target pressure level of 130/80mmHg, while for diabetes the sugar level should be between 4 to 7mmol/l (for fasting blood sugar) to ensure the diseases do not destroy their vital organs.

On patients who go from one doctor to another thinking there is a cure for the diseases, Dr Goh said they have to know that there is no cure for these diseases but only control and slowing down the devastating effects.

“It is best to prevent the diseases from occurring and this can be achieved by having a healthy lifestyle,”

National Kidney Foundation (NKF) second vice-chairman Dr Tan Chwee Choon said based on the National Renal Registry 2006, nearly 3,000 new patients were seeking kidney dialysis treatment yearly and the annual growth rate was about 10%

“We encourage people to seek treatment so that they don’t end up with kidney dialysis which is not only costly but there is also a long waiting list,” he said during the launch of the NKF Kidney Care community programme “Are your kidneys ok?” in conjunction with the World Kidney Day 2008.

He is not leaving the team

13,March,2008

samypicture.jpg

Uncle Sam is dedicating his time and life for MIC. He had announced that he is not leaving or stepping down from MIC. Infact he plans to rebuild the MIC organisation to a better heights.

At the same time he had denied the offer for a Cabinet Post. This is the statement made “I don’t want to be a senator and I don’t want to be a minister via a senatorship. I’ve already got the message from the voters of Sungai Siput and I thank them for it. I’ve accepted my defeat and that is that. Maybe someone else would accept a senatorship but not me. It’s just not me,”

“I will now focus my energy on MIC and the problems affecting the Indians as I believe that I can still reunite the Indians. I’m sure I can do this as I know everyone. I’ve done this for 42 years and I know my people.”

This is an interesting statemnet “The BN government has to work harder to elevate the plight of the Indians and earn their trust once again. There shouldn’t be any more delays either in implementing the suggestions MIC has put forward to help the Indians,”

As a citizen living in this country, I personally find that the recent election is definitely a good change for the country, but as an Indian – I still strongly feel that we need to keep MIC going on. Its just an added advantage for Indian to move on. Even if we have new mixed goverment we still need MIC to go on, maybe the only thing need to be changed is the way how the organisation had been handled all this while – to be more aggresive in addressing the Indian community concern !

The boyfriend said to have confronted Siti Hajar who worked at a nightclub in the city, at about 3.15pm on Sunday and had accused her of having an affair with another man. The woman, who is from Perlis, is said to have had denied the accusation and a heated argument ensued.

After strangling her to death, the boyfriend, who sells clothes at the Selayang market, fled to his hometown in Negri Sembilan where he later confessed to his family that he had murdered his girlfriend.

His family members persuaded him to give himself up and brought him to the police station at about 5pm. Police had clasified this as Murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code

Mahathir: We need an opposition

6,March,2008

mahathir.jpg

This is a good article from Malaysia Kini about Mahathir’s comment :

He Says “I believe in an opposition. I have always maintained that this country needs an opposition and they should be critical of the government without which we don’t have a mirror to look at our faces. We think that we are very beautiful but it is the opposition that keeps telling us (that may not be true).

“You know the government member (of parliament), sometimes they are ‘ahli bodek’ (apple polishers). They are always saying ‘you’re right’, and you have no means of assessing whether you are going in the right direction or not.”
“Kelantan would be a very difficult because although the margin is very small, Kelantanese have got a mind of their own, so to speak. If they are living in KL, they are very supportive of the government but if they are living in Kelantan, the peer pressure is very strong.”

What he says bout “Pak Lah”

“I want to say this, there was no gentleman’s agreement on this but my thinking was that he (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) should serve for one term and give Najib (Razak) who by then would be much older to succeed him,”

“When I left, I made sure that the party, the government and the finances are in good shape. So when I am told that (my) projects have been postponed because of no money, it’s definitely not true.”

“If I was still the prime minister, I could go on not only with the projects that has already in the pipeline but also with new projects because we had money,”

“It is up to the people to judge. You see, I would be bias. (It) is normal if he wants to leave his mark but the unfortunate thing is that the mark cause some losses for us. That is why I was so critical,”

What he says bout “Khairy”

“He (Khairy) has said that ‘I can do these things because I get protection from my father-in-law’. Nobody should ever say that. Do the right thing – you don’t ask for protection from your father-in-law,”
