SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) – David Beckham will open in Brazil the first “David Beckham World of Sport,” a professional sports complex designed and planned with his input.

The complex _ including eight soccer fields, a 10,000-seat stadium and facilities for golf and tennis among others _ will be in a soon-to-be-built luxury resort near the northeastern city of Natal, according to a statement by the Cabo Sao Roque resort on Tuesday.

Beckham, who was in Brazil for the announcement, said the facility will incorporate a scholarship program for Brazilian children that will actively outreach to schools in the region, and that the training facilities will be able to accommodate visiting soccer teams and other sports such as American football.

“I don’t want to teach (Brazilians) to play soccer,” Beckham was quoted as saying by the Agencia Estado news service. “I want to offer a safe place for kids to develop their abilities.”

Natal is one of the Brazilian cities bidding to host World Cup matches when the tournament comes to Brazil in 2014. “I am honored to be associated with this incredible project which will build world-class sporting facilities in Brazil, hopefully having a major impact at a local level and internationally,” Beckham said in a statement.

The latest David Beckham Academy _ a soccer school for youths _ will be among the highlights of the new development, which also will include two golf courses, academies for golf, polo and tennis, and the Rubens Barrichello Driving Experience comprised of a professional go-kart track and four-wheel driving facility created by the Brazilian Formula One driver.

The racing facility will offer a scholarship program for young Brazilians to help discover the country’s next F1 driving champion, the statement said.

“I’m in this project with my name and my experience and I’ve bought the whole idea,” Barrichello said. “It’s an honor to share a partnership with a great name like Beckham, who has done so much to so many children who needed help. This development will certainly open new frontiers here.”

Beckham has already established academies in London and in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson.

“(The) sporting experience will excite both professional athletes and people whatever their ability,” Beckham said. “I am incredibly proud of the work my academies do both in London and Los Angeles and I am happy Brazilian children will benefit from access to the top-class facilities and coaching at this resort.”

Beckham is a partner in the resort project along with the group Brazil Development Investimentos Turisticos.

The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder said the sports complex was expected to be completed by the 2014 World Cup. – AP

Brothers’ 10km walk of gratitude

IPOH: Brothers B. Vetheswaran and B. Vethenthiran were miraculously unhurt after being hit by cars in two separate incidents two years ago.

The boys believe that Lord Subramaniam saved them from being seriously injured.

As a sign of their gratitude, Vetheswaran, nine, and Vethenthiran, eight, decided to take part in the Thaipusam procession here yesterday to thank Lord Subramaniam.

They walked barefoot from their home in Ulu Kinta to the Sri Subramaniar Temple, about 10km away in Gunung Cheroh here. The duo were joined by their seven-year-old brother Vethanaganajan.

Their father S. Bala, 37, said: “In both incidents, the boys were flung several metres after being hit but they were unscathed.

“They both told me that Lord Subramaniam had saved them.”

Bala said a medical check-up confirmed that Vetheswaran and Vethenthiran had not suffered any injuries.

In JOHOR BARU, one of the largest kavadi at the Munishwarar Temple in Tampoi was carried by police detective R. Nadarajah, 46, who had taken a vow to carry a large kavadi to pray for his mother’s good health.

“I have been carrying the kavadi at this temple for the last 15 years. I started as a sign of gratitude, when my mother recovered from an illness after I prayed for her at this temple,” he added.

Although Nadarajah has since been transferred to Kuantan, he said he has made it a point to make the journey back to the temple to fulfil his vow every year.

“As long as I am able to carry the kavadi, I will come back here for Thaipusam no matter where I am,” he said

The Lord

Several roads here will be temporarily closed for the three-day Thaipusam celebration which begins Tuesday.

OCPD Asst Commissioner Azisman Alias said the road closure, from 6pm Monday, would start from Jalan Sungai Pari where the procession of the Lord Muruga chariot was expected to leave the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple there.

Devotees would then escort the chariot to the Sri Subramaniar Temple in Gunung Cheroh here.

Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Lahat, Jalan Kidd, Jalan Sultan Yussuf, Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan Raja Musa Aziz will then be closed in stages to allow the procession to pass through, said ACP Azisman.

On Wednesday, the stretch of Jalan Raja Musa Aziz between the roundabout and Medan Ipoh Raya will be closed throughout the day, he said.

“That particular stretch will only be reopened to traffic after the chariot leaves the Sri Subramaniar Temple for the return journey to the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Sungai Pari at 6pm on Sunday,” he added.

On Thursday, the affected roads would also be closed in stages when the chariot makes its way back to the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple.

ACP Azisman said this year could see some 200,000 people flocking to the Sri Subramaniar Temple and advised people to plan their trips to avoid any inconveniences.

“Policemen will be on duty during the celebration to direct traffic and assist the public,” he said.

Simple Home Wireless

Today’s Topic – Wireless

DEFINITION – The 802.11h specification is an addition to the 802.11 family of standards for wireless local area networks (WLANs). 802.11h is intended to resolve interference issues introduced by the use of 802.11a in some locations, particularly with military radar systems and medical devices.

The rules for 802.11h were recommended by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) because of problems that arose with interference to and from other devices, especially in Europe. Two schemes are used to minimize interference. Dynamic frequency selection (DFS) detects the presence of other devices on a channel and automatically switches the network to another channel if and when such signals are detected. Transmit power control (TPC) reduces the radio-frequency (RF) output power of each network transmitter to a level that minimizes the risk of interference to and from other systems, while still allowing satisfactory network performance.

The man that Controls the world

“I don’t know what it’s going to feel like not to come in every day and work 10 hours,” Gates said. “I have a sense of what it’s like to do foundation work because I’ve squeezed that in part time, but I think it will probably take me a while, just like six years ago when I switched off from CEO. It might take me a year and a half to get used to my role. That’s a little bit of an unknown now and because I’ve got two years, I don’t even really want to go there now, because I’ll figure it out when I get there.”

He finally decided and announced to move on, from being the Chairman of Mircosoft from July 2008.  Microsoft had done much to change the world on its own way with the lead of this great man. Do you guys know that even being the richest in the world Bill is one person that gives his 100% percent at work and work for as long as 10 hours a day ??? and we grumble to work for just 8 hours ? with an hour off for lunch… and with 15 minutes for tea break…… Its a good lesson to learn from this chap.
